A group of 13 citizens which include Kariba Member of Parliament(MP), John Houghton, were arrested in the resort town of Kariba yesterday( Wednesday) for protesting.
According to ZimLive, the detention of the Kariba MP and 12 others was as a result of a protest against Avondale78 detention.
Four other rights defenders are also held after being ejected from plane at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport over the pro-Timba protest.
The arrest of the Kariba 13 was confirmed by former CCC MP Ostallos Siziba. Ostallos highlighting the growing concerns over the government’s handling of political dissent.
“13 activists including Hon. John Houghton, former Mayor George Masendu, Farai Mageva and others have been arrested for peacefully protesting with placards demanding the release of Hon. Timba and others.
They are currently detained at Kariba Police Headquarters. This is Zimbabwe under Mnangagwa. The constitution has been suspended! The fight is on. Homeland or death!
Said Ostallos Siziba.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) arrested the interim opposition party leader of another CCC faction, Jameson Timba and 70 other youths for disorderly a conduct during a private meeting held a month ago at Timba’s residence.
According to media reports, the a woman with an infant was also arrested during the operation.
