A 50-year-old man from Mhondoro was sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison for raping a 9-year-old minor.
According to the trial, the 9-year-old minor is his niece. The man’s name is however being withheld so as to protect the minor.
Following a full trial which took place on Monday, the 50-year-old man was sentenced by Mhondoro Regional Magistrate, Tranos Utahwashe.
The circumstances to the case are that the affected niece was gathering some firewood and the man called her to his homestead.
The man told the girl to follow her to his bedroom where he removed the her clothing with force and raped her once. He threatened the girl not to tell anyone and that he would beat her if she did so.
Later, on September 23 the girl complained to her mother about a vaginal itching. As a result, the whole issue was then revealed after the girl told her mother about the whole experience.
A police report was made and the man was arrested. Mike Choto brought charge.
