BREAKING NEWS: Dozens perish as two Zupco buses collide head-on

Accident

SEVERAL passengers were killed while dozens of others were injured midmorning Monday after two Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) buses collided head-on just outside Chinhoyi.

The horrific accident occurred at a blind rise near Bhutsu Compound along the Harare-Chirundu Highway.

One of the buses was travelling to Banket from Chinhoyi while the other was on its way to Hurungwe from Harare.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Kariba-bound bus attempted to simultaneously overtake a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck on ascend, leading to the head-on collision.

Mashonaland West provincial secretary, Josphat Jaji, was at the scene of the crash when NewZimbabwe.com arrived.

He confirmed an unverified number of dead bodies had been conveyed to the Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary while ambulances were deployed to ferry the injured.

“It’s so sad. I cannot confirm the number of dead, but people have died,” Jaji said.
