Confederation of African Football (CAF) have made a decision to award Nigeria with 3 points and 3 goals, at the same time fining Libya a total of $50 000.
This comes after Libya Football Federation was found to have violated key regulations concerning the scheduled match which they were supposed to host against Nigeria.
The Super Eagles were stranded at a Libyan airport for over 12 hours without food or drink before an AFCON qualifier earlier this month.
The disciplinary decision was confirmed by CAF Disciplinary Board Chairperson Ousmane Kane this Saturday.
These decisions were made by a disciplinary committee established to review the situation involving the Libyan and Nigerian senior men’s teams.
Below are the members of the committee and their respective countries:
Ousmane Kane (Senegal) as Chairperson, Njeri Onyango (Kenya) as Vice-Chairperson, and members Felix Golbassia (Chad), Patrick Shale (Lesotho), and Norman Arendse (South Africa).
The decisions made by the committee have been met by mixed reactions in the footballing community.
This is after they were allegations that the Nigerian Football Federation also subotaged Libya a month before when Nigeria were the hosts.
However, some are saying that these disciplinary measures will be a good example and will help educate all African countries on how to treat an away team.
