“He’s a high risk and can die anytime soon”: 122-year-old man denied service by funeral cover firms

At least four Funeral Cover firms based in South Africa and Zimbabwe have denied funeral cover insurance policy to a 122-year-old man pointing out the fact that he’s too old and a high risk since he might die anytime soon.

 

The man known as Sekuru Banda has find himself being sidelined by these firms as they think that his contributions are not substantial for the remaining time he has to live on this earth.

 

The first attempt to place hime on a Funeral cover policy was done by his nephew in South Africa, but it received a cold response from the service provider. “He’s too old, he might, he might die anytime”, said the Service provider.

 

After their unsuccessful try in try South Africa, Sekuru Banda’s family tried to find a firm in Zimbabwe which would consider putting him under a cover. However, they were shocked to here the same sentiments they heard in South Africa.

 

According to a quick research made by ZNN News, funeral cover firms have minimum and maximum entry ages for dependents. Whilst dependants may be covered from birth, the maximum age ranges from 65 to 75  years depending with the service provider chosen.

 

However, the family was not impressed by these terms and conditions citing that it was cruel to treat him like he’s about to die. They claimed that their “Sekuru” deserves dignity even in death.
