Hwange men steals goat, and come back selling the meat to the owner

Courts Crimes

In a rare theft case, a 28-year-old Hwange based man stole a goat from the grazing fields, went on to slaughter the animal and to make the things worse and funny, sold the goat meat to the owner of the goat.

The youthful man, Shylock Zulu, was sentenced to  six-month prison term for this act which lacked any remorse. The convicted Zulu is from Themba Ndlovu Homestead in Mashala Village.

According to the country’s National Prosecuting Authority, the incident took place on the 8th of January 2025 in Mashala grazing area. In a shameless manner, Zulu stole a black-and-white male goat belonging to his neighbor, Thabani Sibanda. He went on to slaughter the goat and  brought meat  to Sibanda’s homestead and lied that it was bush buck meat and sold it for USD $15.

The neighbour, Sibanda, however became suspicious when he noticed the “bush buck” bore a striking similarity to his missing goat.

An investigation was made which led to Zulu’s arrest and conviction for stock theft.

He was sentenced to six months in prison, but the court suspended the entire sentence on two conditions: Zulu must not commit a similar offense within five years, and he must restitute Sibanda ZW$1057.
