Neymar’s father issues strong statement amid reports he will pay disgraced Barcelona star Dani Alves’ €1 million bail

Neymar’s father has spoken out against claims that he paid the €1 million bail to ensure ex-Barcelona star Dani Alves’ release from prison.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The former full-back is reportedly set to be released from prison after his fellow Brazilian star’s father agreed to match his bail. However, Neymar Sr. has distanced himself from such reports, though he admitted to helping the disgraced Alves out earlier in the case.

WHAT NEYMAR SR SAID

“As everyone knows, at first, I helped Dani Alves, without any link with any lawsuit,”

Neymar Sr wrote on an Instagram post.

“In this second moment, in a different situation from the previous one, in which the Spanish Courts have already decided for the conviction, they are speculating and trying to associate my name and my son’s with a matter that is no longer up to us today.

“I hope Daniel finds with his own family all the answers he is looking for. For us, for my family, the matter is over.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 40-year-old was found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison in Barcelona. His bank accounts were frozen during the legal proceedings, making it impossible for him to afford the bail amount and it has been said that Neymar Sr. stepped in to help out.

WHAT NEXT FOR DANI ALVES?

Ex-Paris Saint-Germain player Dani Alves will likely be released before the end of the week as he appeals against his rape conviction. He will have to surrender his passport to the Spanish court to guarantee he does not leave the country while the process is ongoing.
