Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who is the current Chairman of the inter-governmental regional bloc, Southern African Development Community (SADC) has conveniently sent Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri to be his representative at the inauguration of Daniel Chapo in the crisis hit Mozambique.
President Mnangagwa is on his annual leave though he is carrying all the official duties which included Cabinet appointments and reshuffle in some key government bodies.
According to analysts the 82-year-old leader has seen it convenient that he keeps his name clean as the SADC leader by not attending this controversy packed inauguration of Chapo.
His ruling party Zanu Pf has becoming somehow unpopular on the Opposition end in Mozambique as the Opposition is claiming that some Zanu Pf supporters were used to vote in the elections.
The Zanu Pf leader also prematurely endorsed Chapo as president even before the Mozambique’s electoral body had done so. This action also resulted in a lot of criticism from a lot of stakeholders.
They had been a widespread bloodshed in the neighbouring Mozambique where a lot of people have been protesting the election results saying the elections were rigged against Venâncio Mondlane.
Today, according to various reports they is a very tense atmosphere in Maputo amid of the event.
Over 100 people have been killed by Mozambique security forces since the protests against election results started.
