Gospel singer Funi “Khavhanndwele” Mbedzi tragically lost her life during a church service at Makonde Shadani village in Limpopo on Saturday, March 30, at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Allegedly, her husband shot and killed her while the congregation was in worship.

According to the South African Police Services (SAPS), the suspect entered the church and fired multiple shots at Mbedzi before fleeing in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla. While the motive remains unclear, SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated that domestic violence could be a factor.

The 54-year-old suspect later surrendered to the police. Mbedzi, 45, was a member of the gospel ensemble Worship House since 2004. The group expressed their sorrow on Instagram and postponed their album launch in light of her passing.

Reports indicate that the couple was experiencing marital issues, with their pastor, Dr. Tshifhiwa Ndou Netshaphaphame, confirming their struggles and attempts at reconciliation. The tragic incident has prompted the church to seek professional help, highlighting the need for both prayer and psychological support during difficult times.
