The infamous Tsikidzi (bedbugs) outbreak which has been hitting the Mbare flats residents has reportedly spread to Mbizo, Amaveni and Borrowdale in Kwekwe. This has been since been confirmed by the Kwekwe City Council.
The bedbugs are spreading in a rapid manner across the suburbs raising an immediate alarm. The rate at which “tsikidzi” can spread has be increased by the opening of schools as infestations can be found there and also in a lot of public buildings.
Mayor of Kwekwe Albert Zinhanga said constant fumigation has started in some parts of Mbizo and Amaveni.
“As city of Kwekwe we have been fumigating consistently especially in Mbizo section 7 and Amaveni where we have got the outbreak of tsikidzi, but I want to safely say its not all of Amaveni its just a section and its not all of Mbizo 7 its a section, where you will find this bug in,” said Zinhanga on a video circulating on social media.
Margaret Dube, a resident from Mbizo 11 appealed for help and quick action from authorities to curb the infestations of the blood-sucking pests.
“We are living in hell. These insects are everywhere — in our beds, sofas, and even in public transport. We can’t sleep anymore, We need help, and we need it now.”, she said.
They are growing fears that the outbreak of these bedbugs can spread throughout other suburbs in Kwekwe and local health experts have suggested a blitz fumigation exercise to be taken.
