The Zimbabwean government has taken a bold decision aimed at promoting trade relations with the United States of America by suspending all trade tariffs on goods which originate from the country.
According to the state publication, The Herald, the move was made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a way of harbouring strong bilateral relations among the two nations.
Announcing the move on X, President Mnangagwa said, , “This measure is intended to facilitate the expansion of American imports within the Zimbabwean market while promoting the growth of Zimbabwean exports destined for the United States.”
The move by the president comes after the American government has been placing harsh trade tariffs on almost an country in this world. This has seen stock prices falling worldwide.
Meanwhile, the decision by President Mnangagwa has been introduced to facilitate the entry of American-made products into Zimbabwe’s market. This will also help generate foreign currency by increasing the export of Zimbabwean products to the United States, promoting a balanced trade relationship.
The head of state also highlighted the importance of reciprocal measures to protect domestic industries and jobs.
Bilateral trade between Zimbabwe and the U.S is seen as feasible as Zimbabwe generates a huge amount of foreign currency (United States Dollars) which is needed for trade among the two nations. USD is also one of the main currencies used in the Southern African country.
