An Epworth woman is battling for her life at a local hospital where she was rushed with an axe stuck on her jaw last Friday.

Violet Gwengwere’s chilling cry for help woke up her neighbours who found her writhing in agony at around midnight.

One of Violet’s neighbours, Munyaradzi Pasarai, said:

“I was asleep when I heard a woman screaming,” said Munyaradzi.

“I found Violet battling for her life, unable to speak with an axe stuck in her right jaw. We do not know who attacked her since she was unable to speak and we rushed her to hospital,” he said.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, has appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.

“Police are investigating an attempted murder case where a woman was axed by an unknown person in Epworth,” said Insp Chakanza.
