A 49-year-old man from Gokwe passed away after reportedly consuming a sex-enhancing potion given to him by a traditional healer.
The healer, Macdonald Ndlovu (49), has been arrested and will face murder charges.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, on March 13 at around 8 AM, Chiedza Mdimuranwa (43) left her husband, Isaac Kabarapate, at home while she tended to her garden at a nearby Ume River.
Upon her return at 11 AM, her daughter-in-law informed her that Kabarapate was lying in the bush about 150 meters from their homestead, complaining of stomach pains.
Mdimuranwa found her husband in the bush, where he revealed that he had sought help from Ndlovu for a sexual dysfunction. He claimed that the traditional healer gave him herbs to drink, after which he began experiencing stomach pains and vomiting blood.
The following day at about 1 AM, Mdimuranwa and her husband’s brother took him to Chireya Mission Hospital as his condition worsened. Unfortunately, he passed away on the way to the hospital.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the traditional healer. Kabarapate’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals for a post-mortem as investigations continue.
